The latest kit to join Kotobukiya’s Mega Man X model kit line is a premium version of the series protagonist X! This color variant of X uses a special iridescent coating that changes color depending on the light, with vibrant shades of turquoise, blue, purple, and green that resemble the energy charge effect from the games!Other than the updated color scheme, the kit includes two alternate face parts with eyes facing the opposite direction of the parts from the standard version. Unlike the clear green “Buster Effect” parts based on the games after Mega Man X4 included in the standard version of the kit, the premium version parts are made of clear blue plastic to resemble the effect from the first three games in the series. Combine the parts from the two kits to create an even wider range from across the entire Mega Man X series!
*The Premium Charge Shot version does not include the parts from the standard version of the kit.
A great looking kit that doesn't quite fit together
First, the iridescent coating on this kit looks incredible. It really adds an eye catching element to the model. The majority of visible edges are back gated, which is exactly what this sort of model needs. The issue I ran into was entirely in assembly. Several joint pieces fit together so tightly that they don't bend properly. The ankle joints continue to be problem as the connection joints simply won't rotate. It makes posing difficult and leaves odd gaps between the shin armor and the feet. A second issue is it seems like some of the pegs are too thick. It took a worrisome amount of force to get some of the dark blue pieces to fully snap together. In fact, I still haven't gotten the right leg/shin armor pieces to fit together...and I also can't get them fully apart to try and "dig" out large openings for the pegs. For a model kit priced as it is, this was a pretty frustrating build.
