ZZ The ZZ Ver Ka was awesome. I loved building it and it looks like a beast on my display. Glad I mad ...

AWWWW YEEEEEAH, it's finally time! This beautiful boy definitely ranks in the top 10 kits in DESPERATE need of a remaster, and it's finally getting one! All joints have been enhanced with new mechanisms, and the shoulders in particular feature multiple axes of motion so you can recreate poses you never thought a 1/100 ZZ would hit! Of course the transformation gimmicks are all preserved, and extra care has been taken to make sure that the appearance is just as detailed whether in MS or Fighter mode. Accessories include the double beam rifle, 2 hyper beam sabers, interchangeable hands for each side, and a full sheet of water transfer decals!

Everything was more than I expected. Anyway, it is cool looking.

it was impossible to see like this transformable plastic models. Details which got into the back side of the variable structural part which disappears also makes me feel exciting.

The ZZ to end all ZZ This kit got the remaster is so desperately needed and boy is it good. One of the funnest kits I've ever put together. It's solid, the transformation is smooth and parts from the original were reimagined with new transformation gimmicks. A must have without a doubt

A Beast Of A Kit!! For starters, this is one thick model kit. The amount of plastic that went into making this thing is so deceptive. It doesn't seem like it would have a lot, but it's packing a lot under the hood. Included water slide decals are a godsend, however I would not recommend using them as a first timer's attempt at water slides. I made that mistake, and a couple of the decals got damaged as I was attempting to apply them due to their long, oblong shapes.

For someone who is a fan of ZZ Gundam and is an experience model builder, this kit will be a treat!

Everything the original was meant to be I have been a fan of the ZZ design since I first saw it many years ago, so I jumped at the original MG ZZ and Full Armor versions and was extremely disappointed in the kit, mostly the arms. But, we're not here for those old kits now are we?

Every single complaint I ever had of the old MG ZZ kits are resolved. Every joint is tight enough to hold a pose, it can hold its weapons securely and it can still transform beautifully! What's more is the gorgeous splash of additional details on this kit! The silver detailing pieces really stand out in the best ways possible. Did I mention the landing gear for the core top, core bottom and G Fortress? I didn't?! Well, this thing has integrated landing gear for each of its forms! I wasn't expecting it, I didn't realize what I was building during construction thinking "Huh, this is a bit complex for a simple detail piece" and then WHAMMO, it all falls into place.

As much as I friggin LOVE this kit, I do have three MINOR complaints: 1) The need to swap out fingers/hands to hold weapons and transform, 2) water slide details with no standard label options or dry rubs 3) a few bits are a bit fiddly during transformation (the V-fin and beam rifle in particular).

If you're a fan of the series or the design, why haven't you gotten this yet?

Handsome, but flawed I should probably preface this by saying I never watched Gundam ZZ. That right there's probably already put about half the readers off of this, so for those of you who're still here, let me continue.

The Master Grade ZZ Gundam is a rather awesome looking gundam, when it's being a gundam. When it's being a waverider, a core fighter, or any combination of its various component parts, however, it becomes a bit of a mess rather quickly. The transformation is overly finicky, the plastic doesn't really feel like it's up to the task cuz it's too busy looking as pretty as can be, and then when you finally DO get it into waverider mode, there's an overwhelming, unbridled reaction of "... wait, that's it?" And even when it's in Gundam mode, that giant backpack's doing the posing any favors what so ever, to say nothing of how fiddly and unpleasant it feels to pose, what with all the extra moving parts and transformation joints.

But I obviously like it, otherwise I wouldn't have given it a sum of 12 out of 15 stars. So what's GOOD about the Master Grade ZZ Gundam, then? Well, for starters, this thing is BIG. Even alongside other decently sized Master Grades like the Unicorn or the Hi-Nu MG builds, this guy is massive. It's big, blockey, solid, and aggressive, everything Gundam SHOULD be. The head is gorgeous, the double V-fins accenting the bright red beam cannon delightfully, the massive flaps on the shoulders cut an impressive Power Suit vibe, and whoever came up with those wings on the arms needs a pay raise. Those dual hinges on a swiveling platform make for some amazing action poses, shields, melee weapons, or just a bit of extra flare and style to an otherwise very brick-like suit. There's a ton of mechanical detail both on the surface and beneath the outer plating, but Bandai really shouldn't score points for that sort of thing anymore. Sun shines, grass grows, birds fly, and Bandai puts an insane amount of detail into their model kits the likes of which you'd need a microscope to fully appreciate, and this kit is no exception. On a related note, I can't tell you how nice it was to see actual chrome-painted parts again, you would not believe how bad I am at painting things to look like chrome or metal, but I digress. Very nice looking, very stylish, and exceptionally well designed and built. Just a pity it had to share the spotlight with such an underwhelming.

Overally, I'd say a solid 6 out of 10. Maybe if I'd seen the show I'd have been a bit more lenient, but if anything, I'd say NOT having seen the show allowed me to remain a bit more level-headed and objective. And it's still a really great model kit, I just feel like it could have been better.

Right, now with that out of the way, what's GOOD about this? The upper body's fighter mode isn't too bad, kinda puts me in mind of the old Vic Viper from however many yonks ago, the face is gorgeous with the double V-fin accenting the giant laser cannon on the head, the mechanical detail is awesome but if you ask me, Bandai doesn't get points for that anymore. Sun shines, grass grows, fish swim, and Bandai make model kits that you need a microscope to appreciate the details of. I love the way the wings work, the dual hinges on a swiveling platform make for some excellent action shots, shields, melee weapons, or just a bit of extra attitude when the mood strikes you.

Overall, I'd give it a 7 out of 10. The thing is big, blockey, solid, and aggressive, everything Gundam SHOULD be. Just a shame about the transformation gimmick not being impressive, which is extra sad given the mindbogglingly amazing engineering work on display.
