Unicorn Unit Number 3 Compared to the other two Unicorns, Unit 3 is be far more stable. That's not to say that it is stable, as the binders on the back weigh the suit down. A stand is recommended for this suit, as with all of the other Unicorns.
Glitz, glamor, Unicorn, Oh my! For what I heard about other MG Unicorn and plated gold kits, this one certainly takes the cake for expectations blown out the window. The blue is a nice contrast to the reflective gold, the armor DEs certainly make up for a potential lack of armaments, and the joints were not weak as I expected them to be. The version I got was the Gold Plated version(the box art for this kit does not have the indication), but whether one can get this version or the real gold plated version, this is certainly one of the centerpieces of a collection.
MG Phenex Now, my personal bias aside as my absolute favorite Gundam ever.
However, this kit does have its fault, like all of the Unicorn kits do. The build and transformation is a little bit finicky, and square poly caps are a really weird design that dont really work well.
But with all those faults aside, the Unicorns are beautiful set pieces, and the Phenex is no exception. That gold and blue is andolutley stunning. If you're looking to get a Master Grade Unicorn kit, the Phenex is a great start.
Great Kit! But prepare yourself before purchase! I picked up this kit and boy was I in for a build! The other reviews have touched upon this, but most of the kit is plated in the bandai candy-coating gold. This is to say that it is a layer of chrome-ish paint then coated with clear yellow, which gives it a great gold colour! However this presents a few issues when cutting the pieces from the runner.
First, pick yourself up a gold paint-type gundam marker, it masks the nub marks (which are white, and apparent) extremely well! it even allows you to do some accenting if you choose (it's fun to do a small amount of custom work here and there!). After you cut the gold parts from the runner and dispose of the marks, apply the gold paint and allow them to dry, you'll be happy you did.
The build of the kit is pretty fun! It took a while to complete with the touch ups, but the end process is absolutely gorgeous. The armed armor DEs add a bit of weight to it, so be sure to secure it with a display stand! The transforming gimmick is a fun little thing to tinker around with as well.
Overall, if you're a fan of Unicorn or Narrative, this is a great kit to pick up, one that I would definitely build again. Just be sure to take care with the nub marks and you'll be fine! Luckily you can buy the gold marker on this site as well.
Flashiest MG I’ve seen, but also the hardest. Oh boy, where to start-
The phenex is an absolutely gorgeous model that looks positively stunning under light due to the gold coating respectively. Both unicorn and NTD mode have their own charms that will turn any head in the room to it.
The only downside to this kit, is that it’s just COATING as in you yourself have to sand down the nubs AND obtain a brilliant gold paint to cover the white nub marks. So the extra work you have to put into it with seperately sold tools make it’s value a little farfetched to me. There’s also the downside of this kit being an absolute fingerprint magnet.
Overall, I absolutely do not regret getting this kit, the Armed Armor De parts have always been a favorite unicorn armament of mine. And i love the gold coating and how it reflects. I just wish i got this kit knowing exactly what i was getting myself into so i was more prepared with the proper tools.
