Tons of style, not enough substance?
This kit has a special place in my heart as the first kit I custom painted. And boy was I happy with the result. So what do I think of it?
It's the Strike Freedom. Arguably one of the most iconic (and popular) mobile suits out there. I think it looks great. But there's a few things about this kit that were disappointing. First- the good stuff. The articulation, armor separation, and proportions are all top notch. The included weapons are all sturdy, and the beam shield effect part is particularly nice. The backpack also uses an internal mechanism that spreads the funnels evenly when you go for the trademark "full burst" pose. Very impressive. The included funnel effect parts also look great and almost warrant buying this edition alone.
What's less impressive are the colors. Ugh, the frame. It comes in the worse puke gold color you can imagine. Now granted, the full burst edition comes with a new runner that has certain parts, like the funnel mounts, elbow joints, and fingers, molded in a plated gold which does look better. But if you want this kit to look truly presentable, you need to paint. Also, the plastic stands for the funnels are a complete joke. They bend under the weight after literal seconds. The included plain stand is absolute trash, don't ever use it; But thankfully the box does include an action base which is great. The biggest disappointment is that the "full burst" edition doesn't include the wings of light effect parts like its cousin Destiny Gundam does.
