Kotobukiya Proto Man/Blues Model Kit
Very good quality model kit, faithful to Blues’ depictions in official artwork. Impossibly cool and cute, as he should be!
Simple kit, short build time (approximately 2hr~). However, the process of trimming and sanding down plastic nubs may add to time spent. Plastic is also nice and sturdy, more or less what I’d expect from Kotobukiya.
Haven’t experienced any excessive looseness or tightness in any joints so far, I am pleased with this.
He’ll need a lick of paint here and there to achieve perfection, mainly for smaller details- the vent on his helmet and Proto Buster, etc. The E-Tank he comes with is not painted and is molded out of the same grey plastic as his body, so it is necessary to paint the E-Tank in its proper blue color.
I’m incredibly pleased with the model itself. Proto Man is nicely articulated and proportioned, and easily poseable. His scarf and Proto Shield are detachable, allowing for a good number of possible poses. He comes with three alternate facial expressions- an angry, determined expression, a charmingly cocky smirk, and one that makes him appear to be whistling a tune.
The joints may seem rather conspicuous at first, though as Proto Man is a robot (and, of course, an articulated model kit), I feel that Kotobukiya did a good job with the design of the joints- I don’t find them to be particularly noticeable, as they blend into his design quite well.
Overall, I’m thoroughly impressed with the model. I bought the kit as it is the closest thing we have to an official Proto Man action figure, though it stands well on its own as a solid, well-designed model kit- I honestly can’t think of anything that I dislike or that I am disappointed with in this kit.
If you can get your hands on it, I recommend this kit if you’re a fan of robots/androids, Proto Man/the Mega Man series in general, or someone looking for a quick and simple build.
I’ll be on the lookout for the corresponding Rock and Roll kits so I can have the siblings together! :-)
