This is why Anaheim Electronics is the true enemy in UC Gundam I love this design. Honestly the fb upgrade to the RX-78GP01 was the first gundam I ever saw, and I have wanted a model of it ever since. I love how the model displays, I love the details that shine through in a PG kit, and it was an awesome project overall. I loved the PG size because it made this kit an extremely technical build, and technical builds mean more time spent modelling and less time spent feeling trapped in an endless oblivion of Coronavirus sadness.
However dear lord the core block system on this thing. I recognize that PG models are super complex for their size, and understood that going into it I might as well be building an actual gundam, but the integrated core fighter in this model kit makes the entire kit less stable than Animal from the Muppets after a particularly large line of white lightning. Trying to mate the upper torso and arms to the lower torso with the core block system in the middle is exceptionally difficult, and it makes the model super fragile. I think this kit would have benefited from having a separate core fighter model, and being able to build the Gundam itself without the ability to remove the core fighter.
Great Design, Fragile top I had a lot of fun building this kit, and it was in fact my second ever Gunpla. Sadly the top it a little wobbly and I had to purchase a stand in order to get it to stay relatively stable.
Sadly this wasn't without some casualties. Both the head antenna and the right shoulder have broken on me. The shoulder luckily was easy to fix, the antenna though was sadly lost.
A separate Core fighter would nice. Nice kit, lots off thrusters. Core block would have been nice. That way both the MS and the Core Fighter could be showcased.
Great Kit Overall, Few Flaws This is a really cool kit with lots of little details and features. The transformation with the core fighter is both the best and the worst part of this kit.
Waist down is super solid and easily pose-able, but the connections in the torso are loose and it tends to come apart when moving. Otherwise the other problems are minor, the shield is a little difficult to keep attached and I recommend using a little adhesive on the kneepads.
When finished this kit looks great and a little panel lining goes a long way with all the tiny details on the white. There are tons of decals included in the box and the color separation is great.
Overall this is a must have RG in my opinion, especially for the price. You can't go wrong with this kit and you'll definitely get your money's worth.
Still a great purchase Wanted to leave my review for this model. This is literally the very first RG-level model I built, and after this I built the GP02a from Gundam 0083. My build time was about 12 hours to build every piece. I spent most of that time cleaning off excess plastic with an Exacto knife to get really clean edges.
The Good: Detail on each individual piece is amazing. Different pieces actually can be moved into slightly different orientations, lending itself to posing. The frame itself articulates like real joints. The screen accuracy is really good in this one. Articulation is great. Mine stands on its own when it's in a neutral posture, but I would still use a stand for it. The weapons and shield are really nice as well.
The Bad: Like others have said, the two-piece connector (with the ball joint on the bottom) that attaches the torso/Core Fighter to the Hips/Legs is rather weak. Definitely not sturdy enough for anything beyond posing. It came apart for me several times while trying to get the finishing touches on it. I did have to spend quite a good amount of effort with an Exacto knife to clean off excess plastic after removing pieces from the box frames to get really clean seams and edges, so have your tweezers, plastic snips, and Exacto knife ready to go for this one. There are some very small pieces that I would recommend gluing a tad, just because they kept falling out for me, but your mileage may vary.
An Amazing RG Kit This kit looked amazing with all of it’s details. The color separation and articulation is impressive. Everything of this kit is solid except for the torso is a little loose do to the core fighter, while doing different poses it might come apart, but if you take your time with each pose it should stay together. This kit is still ways better than the other 1/144 scale of this same kit, the HG version which I am surprised there is no revieve version of this kit release yet. This version the RG is highly recommended to any Gundam fan.
