You do need paint! Some of the larger gift bag items don't have any color to them at all. You absolutely need paint for this unless you want plain, unpainted plastic. The only painted parts are the heart box, small green box, medium blue bag, and small brown gift box. All shopping bags are unpainted. You do get two brown cords for the larger shopping bags, and some pretty cute decals. Overall worth it.
