We are updating this post with a list of common questions and general points of attention we'd like to give our customers while we continue working on the site. You can scroll down for a message from the owner giving the general overview of the update!
1. Customer wishlists were not migrated. If you want to consult your old wishlist, you can go to old.gundamplanet.com and all your data is still there! It will be available for at least three months, but will shut down at a later date.
2. There are some strange things happening with product reviews that seem to randomly assign certain items every single review written on our site. If you see a product with 8,000 reviews and none of them are for the correct item, don't worry! We're aware of the issue.
3. GP point balances are still migrating to the new rewards plugin, so you may show a zero balance despite your history.
4. Our newsletter service is changing a bit, so you may receive double correspondences for a short period and/or receive newsletters for both figures and models despite previous preferences. We apologize for any inconvenience this causes!
5. We're testing a new login method that is more secure, but may seem inconvenient at first. We will be evaluating whether to keep this code-based method or revert to legacy for about a month.
6. We will be rolling out shipping carrier choices in the coming weeks, allowing you to choose between FedEx, UPS, and USPS and pay real-time rates if you prefer them over our existing flat-rate ground option. In the meantime, carrier-specific rates may not be accurate and may appear exorbitant while we update all item and packaging data.
7. International shipping is currently unavailable but we are rolling it out in the next 1-2 weeks to all the regions we originally shipped to. This is so that we can focus on troubleshooting as many order and item-related issues resulting from the migration as possible before opening orders to the entire world.
A message from the owner:
Hello Customers!
My name is Youngjun and I am the president of Gundam Planet, responsible for website development and maintenance. I don't usually write directly but I wanted to share our exciting update.
Since late-2024, we have been working on transitioning from Adobe Commerce, our web platform for the past 15 years, to Shopify. We are pleased to announce that the migration will take place next week.
There are many differences between the two platforms, but we made every effort to retain the unique identity of Gundam Planet.
Due to the migration, we are no longer able to use the cross-account feature that utilized three domains: Gundam Planet, Figurise, and Planet Connection. While it was fun to have different features and product lineups for each site, Adobe Commerce was experiencing performance issues when too many products were displayed on one site. Initially, we were concerned condensing so many products onto a single site might make it hard to find things, but surprisingly, the new site is well-organized and easy to navigate—especially thanks to the improved search function. Going forward, all products will be available for search and purchase exclusively on GundamPlanet.com.
Overall, the server’s auto-scaling feature has greatly improved the shopping experience. Even during peak times, searches are much faster and the site works more smoothly on mobile devices. Additionally, security has been significantly enhanced. With the elimination of the major hacking concerns Adobe Commerce retailers faced, we can now introduce more exciting features in the future without additional stress.
After the migration, we will keep the previous site available as a backup for 3 to 6 months. Please note the following information that will not be carried over to the new site:
• Payment information (we never store payment details on our servers)
• Wishlists
• Orders prior to 2017
• Points History (only the balance will be transferred)
• Planet Connection feeds
There are also some minor changes in the way certain features work, which we will outline in more detail in future updates. In the meantime, we would appreciate any feedback on the improvements or areas that need attention.
Lastly, I want to thank you in advance for your understanding as our entire team re-learns and updates our operations. We anticipate a smooth transition that will not impact orders, but there may be slightly longer-than-average processing times and customer service response times during the initial transition period.
Thank you for your continued support of Gundam Planet as we take this next step!
Best regards,
Youngjun Son
