Really cool kit, but not an easy build The quality and look of this kit is awesome, but due to the small size, that leads to a ton of small pieces and decals which might not be the best for newer builders.
Grampa's Got Some Weak Joints This thing was the first RG and unfortunately it shows. From weird foot construction, skirts and thruster bells that love to pop off, and only the RG style poseable hands included. (Which have a hard time firmly holding things and the fingers pop off a lot)
I will give credit where credit is due and say it has a fair amount of accessories, and can be constructed with the core fighter on display. (*cough cough* LOOKIN AT YOU RG GP01)
All in all if you put int he work with the decals this thing is one of the most beautiful Grampa Gundam models ever made, and I do absolutely love mine. If you're like me and you prefer 1/144 scale stuff to 1/100 scale stuff then I'd totally recommend this as the Grampa Gundam to have in your collection.
Fun build but imperfect model This classic is a fun build and easier than other RGs I've done while still being noticeably different from HG kits; I wish I'd done this RG first rather than messing with some of the fiddliness of RG Zakus. The RX-78-2 looks really good once you're done, but some of the joints (particularly in the arms and waist) are much looser than I'd like, which makes it a little finicky to pose.
Great kit but fragile. I love this but it is extremely fragile. I literally just finished building this and have had both thrusters on the backpack pop off, fingers in a hand, the shield, the bazooka (mounted on the back), and an arm. Love the color separation and gimmicks especially since I built this and the HG Revive back-to-back.
My 9th RG build Beautiful detail, panelling, and decals(the 30th Anniversary stickers were a nice touch). The front waist panels have a tendency to fall off in a crouch position, and arm joints are a little weak(there is an easy fix for that). Love the Core fighter gimmick. Still an exceptional kit to build. A must buy.
As the first in a new line this shows some growing pains Sadly, as cool as it looks the RX-78 is a fragile mess that will probably frustrate you more than it can impress you.
Amazing but fragile. But mostly Amazing. Disclaimer: Still have to finish the shield, weapons, and core fighter.
Okay so I finished building the Gundam today and wow it is detailed! I bought waterslides to do the decals as my previous experience with Real Grade turned me off to the standard sheet. Anyways, the detail is awesome. Posability is great, but once I find the pose it's staying like that. Why? Because this thing is really fragile, or at least it feels that way. The verniers have popped off twice. The waist pieces have a tendency to pop off when adjusting them, though it's not as bad as the verniers. Despite the fragility, I still recommend it based on the detail/price ratio. Just be careful with it.
Amazing looking, Very fragile. As the first of the RG line, everyone was absolutely blown away by how amazing this thing looks. It's the best looking RX-78-2 imo, but due to the scale, that comes at a price; there's a lot of parts that like to fly off if you play with them too much. My advice would be to pose it once and leave it alone on your shelf after that.
