Anyway, the MAILeS KENBU has the distinct honor of being the first non-Gundam robot to appear in the Full Mechanics line! It's in 1/48 scale and comes with 3 sets of interchangeable hands, a rifle, 3 blades, and 2 different in-scale pilot figures!

My Barbatos looks kinda weird... Jokes aside I really don't think there was a single thing I don't like about this kit. I was sort of expecting it to just be a bigger version of the High Grade MAILeS kits but there is way more to this one than those kits. There is such a ridiculous degree of color separation on this kit it rivals real grade gunpla. The detail is great, both inside and out. All the accessories are equally impressive, however I do mourn the fact that the blades for the claws and the sword aren't yellow in the manual but I really can't mark points off for that in good consciousness when its such a minor gripe. Even if you aren't really a fan of the anime this is from (like me) I still heavily recommend this as a fan of plastic model kits.

Good Enough FM Kit It's a good kit, hard to balance due to the funky design of the kit. Not too many gripes besides the weapons feeling very looks and the joints feel odd while no issues being apparent.

I'm glad a got it. Befitting something marked 1/48 scale it is pretty large. Not only that but it also feels really solid. This kit is the exact 1/72 kit scaled up, having not built the smaller one, I am pretty confident in saying this kit is no more complex or detailed. I did struggle with fitting the cockpit inside the body of the unit and the access hatch is still to tightly fitted and pops up. Otherwise the kit is very straight forward, mostly with large pieces to fit together.

A hero will rise to fight the tyranny... of boring conventional gunpla design sensibilities. You can only have so many iterations of "sandwich two arm peg hole parts between two flat pieces and attach bicep and forearm armor" and apply so many types of calf/thigh armor to the same shade of gray before it starts to get monotonous, and then here comes AMAIM to blow those expectations out of the water. It's a legitimate breath of fresh air that feels like actual innovation coming along at Bandai's plamo department. The build is surprisingly simple, though some nubs on the edges of corners of its red parts make for some tricky cleanup.
I've seen Master Grades with less color accuracy and more seam lines than this. So long as you sand the nubs and give the panel lines some love, it's otherwise plastic perfection out of the box.
The reason MG Turn A stands out so much among the MG line, why it gets so much love in the community is because the build process and design is so unconventional you've built nothing like it before, and you won't build anything like it again. The 1/48 FM Mailes Kenbu delivers on that front. I have never built anything like the Kenbu, and I might not ever build anything like it again.
I kinda hope Bandai gives another shot at Eureka Seven HGs or hell, even Full Mechanics. I can't imagine just how they'd make a RG or MG Nirvash; and that's the point: Gunpla assembly has become so obsessed with visual fidelity or mechanical gimmicks that they've forgotten that the actual assembly process is part of the process, case in point, the MG 1/100 Eclipse Maneuver Striker. Striking, sleek, and beautiful, but the build is the very definition of mundanity. I had to give myself multiple sessions to build P-Bandai Backpack McEdgyboi because I got tired of building it, but the 1/48 Kenbu just made me want to keep going, the same way you wanna hit "next episode" at the end of an episode of a good show. Not Kyoukai Senki though, heard that show suckedComment Thank you for your feedback! You already voted Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again -
